Consistency and Heart Rate

Without really trying I had a very consistent 6 mile tempo run this morning. With the help of 174 and 177 bpm podrunner mixes I ended up with the following splits:

Mile 1: 11:06 (warm up and podcast recording)
Mile 2: 10:55
Mile 3: 10:58
Mile 4: 10:50
Mile 5: 10:49
Mile 6: 10:52

Total for 6.16 = 1:07:00

I am happy to see my average pace at 10:52 - under 11 min/mi. It is making me more confident that I can get my marathon pace down under 11:27 min/mi which is what I need to break the 5 hour barrier.

These splits, btw, are with 30 sec walking breaks at the end of each mile.

My average heart rate was 158 - and my max just 172. I think my max heart rate has dropped since last year. I will have to calculate it again. Last year my max rate was higher than the calculated rate because I used a number that was an actual measured high rate of 189. I haven't even hit 180 in my training this year. That is probably a good thing. I also need to measure my resting heart rate again. That may be slower than the measured 58 bpm I got from my doctor at my checkup.

Happy running all!

I am ULTRA impressed with your results.

I got ten hours of sleep last night; maybe now I am caught up and can perform better!

You are well on your way to breaking the five hour barrier.

I am so impressed with your heart rate. After our chat I'm thinking I need to start thinking about getting a heart rate monitor.

The Garmin 305 is calling my name

Wow, that is consistent. I've been working on that myself. It's not that easy to do, even with the Garmin.
