Spirit of the Marathon

Judging from a number of blog posts, it seems many of us went to see this movie last night. I was fortunate enough to meet up with Maddy. Joining us was my husband, the newest marathoner. We had a great pre-movie meal at the Cheesecake Factory, then enjoyed some running inspiration. It was interesting to enter a theater full of runners.....not so many buckets of popcorn and a very low audience obesity rate.

I especially liked hearing the story of the elite runners as well as the "everyday" kind of runner.

If you haven't run a marathon (and are considering it) you should go see this movie. Or if you have run a marathon and want to sympathize with other folks and their training challenges, you should see it.

Best part of all was seeing Maddy and meeting fellow runner David.

I'm glad you two saw it together! (Well, you THREE marathoners, I guess I should say! Go Jim!)

My favorite was the older gentleman. He just MADE it for me. Chasen and I were quite amused by him!

I preferred this to the PBS documentary hands down. However, I have since rewatched it and like it more!

In Dallas, two of the three showings were sold out. I felt so bad for Ryan and his knee injury - and glad they gave us some closure on that at the end. Of course a tear or two trickled when they showed Leah and the other women coming over the finish line in tears. You multiple marathoners probably don't cry at the finish anymore but I'm still a wimp. I hope eventually PBS or ESPN will pick it up and replay. I'll buy it if it's ever for sale.

Keri -

Actually I was very emotional after my first two marathons - not so much after the third one, although I had some emotional moments like running down Mainstreet USA.

I find at the end of the race I am physically and emotionally spent. After MCM, I kept wanting to weep when I saw the Iwo Jima memorial and thought about how I had just finished the race.

Sounds like a fun time. I hope the movie will be out on DVD soon. I definitely want to see it!
